Pianist Terence Dawson has built a reputation as one of Vancouver’s most active and respected musicians. A versatile artist, his career spans that of solo pianist, orchestral pianist, chamber musician and teacher. As a concerto soloist, he has performed with the Vancouver Symphony, National Arts Centre Orchestra and the CBC Curio Ensemble. He has played as an extra musician with the VSO for over 25 years, and performs regularly on the VSO Chamber Players Series. He is also a member of the Reside-Dawson duo with VSO Principal Flutist, Christie Reside, and the collaborator of choice for numerous musicians and ensembles.
A dedicated pedagogue and an engaging lecturer and adjudicator, each year Dr. Dawson adjudicates and presents many workshops and master classes for both teachers and students. Invitations for these have come from coast to coast, including The Musashino Akademia Musicae (Tokyo) and Conservatory Canada’s National Piano Master Classes. Dr. Dawson has been a competition jury member for the Canadian Music Competition, the Canadian Federation of Music Teacher’s National Convention and a core faculty member for The Vancouver International Song Institute (VISI), Strings and Keys Summer School (Alberta), and other summer programs for young musicians.
Since 1991, Dr. Dawson has taught piano and chamber music at the UBC School of Music In 2011, he was appointed Chair of the Keyboard Division, succeeding his principal teacher, Jane Coop.
